The Swiss logistics service provider Hausammann Lagerhaus AG has implemented a fully automated high-bay warehouse for hazardous materials along with a PowerShuttle solution for deep-freeze pallets with Stoecklin - all under one roof, including explosion and fire protection compliance.
Construction of a fully automated, ATEX 2-compliant high-bay warehouse for hazardous materials, combined with a fire-protected PowerShuttle solution for frozen pallets – within the same facility
High-bay solution for 4,000 hazardous goods and 4,500 deep-freeze pallets, including Stoecklin logOS control software. The system integrates 3 explosion-proof MASter 24 SRMs, 2 deep-freeze-capable Stöcklin MASTer 24 SRMs with PowerShuttle as well as special environment-specific conveyor and fire protection technology
New capacities for growth in both segments, maximum flexibility and explosion safety when handling a wide range of hazardous materials thanks to "systems that can do practically anything"
Clear structural separation of the two storage facilities and installation of two different, product group-specific explosion and fire protection concepts, devices and conveyor systems in special designs for the respective special environment
There are not many hazardous materials logistics specialists in Switzerland. Hausammann Lagerhaus has established itself as a leader in this demanding niche and further strengthened its position by investing in automation.
One of the biggest challenges in the recent capacity expansion at the Märstetten site was meeting the strict explosion and fire protection requirements: a fully automated deep freeze and a high-bay warehouse for hazardous materials were to be built in the same new construction. However, the variety and rapid changeover of the products to be stored made it impossible to work with the same device and safety technology in both stocks.
In order to meet regulatory and safety requirements, the decision was made to separate the storage areas structurally, to separate the hazardous goods warehouse via a special foam sprinkler system and the special features foam sprinkler system and to secure the deep-freeze area by lowering the oxygen level.
With Stoecklin, both facilities were designed, implemented, and commissioned from a single source in their respective specialized configurations. On one hand, the explosion protection expertise - with ex protection zone 2 certified and approved devices as well as qualified personnel for maintenance and servicing - as well as the manufacturer's comprehensive power in the deep freeze environment were convincing.
Above all, the complete warehouse management system was converted to the logOS Software Suite from Stoecklin. The new system now controls all processes centrally, communicates with the company's IT and enables a quick reaction to malfunctions through remote access.
Despite many unique issues, both plants can be handled independently by the customer: "We have worked intensively with the engineering and software and deal with many problems ourselves," says Roman Hausammann, Business Manager at Hausammann Lagerhaus AG.
At the same time, annual system maintenance is carried out by Stoecklin, and not just because of explosion protection conformity: the Service Technicians recognize many details before they become a problem. "It's a huge advantage to have the experts in the country - it saves time in an emergency and ensures availability."
The new facilities can handle up to 400 pallets per day per storage area, while maintaining a low energy consumption thanks to eco mode, energy recovery, and the sequential start-up of stacker cranes and auxiliary systems.
Performance and flexibility increased along with the available capacities. This has strengthened the Swiss logistics service provider's market position, attractiveness and ability to grow to this day - particularly in the hazardous materials segment.
