Plant and apparatus engineers manufacture apparatus, machines and systems from metal. They manufacture the individual parts and assemble them into components and assemblies. They process sheet metal, metal profiles and pipes using traditional tools such as saws, bending machines and welding equipment as well as computer-controlled bending machines, welding robots and laser cutting systems. To assemble the individual parts, they use joining techniques such as screwing, riveting, soldering and welding.

I've always been very interested in technology. At Stöcklin, I think it's great that I can touch and try out the devices that I draw later on. The atmosphere is great. We get time to learn while we work. And part of the salary is performance-related: The better you work and the better grades you get at school, the more you get paid.

Polymechanic EFZ

Polymechanics manufacture tools, equipment parts and production devices. They program and operate machines and monitor production. Manufacturing is one of the main activities. When producing individual parts or building prototypes, they work by hand on lathes, milling machines and drills. Mostly, however, they use computer-controlled machines. They program these according to the design drawings and also determine the processing steps. They select the required tools, load the machines with them and carry out test runs. As soon as everything is set up perfectly, they start production, which they monitor closely. If they detect any deviations, they stop the machines and correct the settings. Finally, they use high-precision measuring and testing instruments to check the quality of the workpieces.
