MARIETTA, Ga. - Date - Stoecklin Logistics, Inc., a leading provider of automated material handling and warehouse storage systems, today announced it has secured a major modernization project with longtime customer Viega at the company's manufacturing facility in McPherson, Kansas. The agreement reinforces a partnership spanning more than 15 years and highlights both companies' commitment to operational excellence and long-term system performance.
Viega, a global manufacturer of advanced plumbing and heating solutions, including plastic components for plumbing and radiator applications, has relied on Stoecklin technology at its McPherson site since 2009. The original installation featured two S0-T storage and retrieval cranes supported by an integrated conveyor system. In 2015, the system was expanded with a third S0-T crane, additional conveyors, and a transfer car connecting all aisles to increase throughput and flexibility.
As parts of the system have reached end-of-life (EOL), Stoecklin and Viega collaborated to develop a long-term mid life update (MLU) strategy. Initially focused on refurbishing the first two cranes, the project scope evolved through close consultation into a comprehensive modernization of all cranes within the system. The upgrade will bring the entire installation in line with the latest generation of automation components and control technologies, ensuring improved performance, reliability, and future scalability.
The project will be executed in three carefully planned phases to minimize operational disruption. This phased approach enables Viega to maintain production continuity while modernization work is underway. In addition to mechanical and electrical upgrades to the cranes, the Warehouse Control System (WCS) will receive a critical security update, implemented in parallel with the hardware improvements to enhance system resilience and cybersecurity.
"Long-term partnerships like the one we share with Viega are built on trust, performance, and a shared vision for continuous improvement," said Michel Goossen, Head of After Sales, Stoecklin Logistics. "This modernization project demonstrates how legacy automation systems can be successfully evolved to meet today's demands without compromising ongoing operations."
Final testing and completion for the project is scheduled for January 22, 2027.
This milestone underscores Stoecklin's expertise in lifecycle services and modernization, helping customers extend the value of existing automation investments while adopting the latest technological advancements.
