To efficiently supply 5,000 of the region’s top hotels, restaurants and caterers with premium food La Provençale has invested in a fully automated FSP shuttle storage solution from Stoecklin Logistik AG. Designed to operate at 2°C, this state-of-the-art system ensures faster, more efficient handling of fresh and dry goods while supporting the company's continued growth.
Planning and implementation of a fully automated FSP shuttle refrigerated storage solution for handling fresh and dry goods at 2°C.
7-aisle storage facility with 69 FSP shuttles for single and double-deep intermediate storage of 25,000 containers (600x400x240 or 480 mm, for 30 or 50 kg), incl. intelligent sorting and palletizing infrastructure for 21 loading ramps
3,000 over-night orders can be loaded onto 200 own trucks every morning —twice as fast as before
Storage and retrieval capacity of around 5,000 containers per hour, allowing 500 to 600 tons of goods to be handled daily - with full transparency and control
La Provençale is the largest food retailer in Luxembourg. Its range includes more than 45,000 fresh, deep freeze, delicatessen, beverage and non-food items —many of which are produced in-house. Orders placed by midnight are picked, packed, and delivered the next morning via the company’s fleet of 200 trucks operating across 21 loading ramps. This efficiency is made possible by La Provençale’s state-of-the-art logistics infrastructure, including a BOXer RBG deep-freeze high-bay warehouse (built with Stoecklin in 2016) and the newly implemented FSP shuttle system for refrigerated goods.
Between 2022 and 2024, La Provençale constructed a 7-aisle, fully automated FSP shuttle storage system to handle fish, meat, dairy, fruit, vegetables, and other fresh and dry goods at temperatures between 2°C and 5°C. It offers space for 25,000 containers (600x400x240 or 480 mm, 30 or 50 kg) for single and double-deep intermediate storage of the daily turnover from various fresh food departments. At the core of this system, which also includes the rack system, lifters, shelf conveyors and control software, are the dynamically moving shuttle vehicles: a total of 69 Stoecklin FSP shuttles, which together can store and retrieve around 5,000 containers per hour, are driving in seven Aisles. They move 500 to 600 tons of goods every day - with full transparency and control.
The advantage of the AKL FSP shuttle system solution is that the operators only drive on one level at a time. They carry out their Work in parallel and independently of each other throughout the entire plant and can be easily replaced if necessary during ongoing operation without downtime for maintenance and servicing.
Around 40,000 containers are picked and loaded every day. Previously, loading took an average of one hour per truck and every movement had to be documented. This is now all done fully automatically - and halves the palletizing and loading time. Half the charging time means double the capacity - without additional personnel. The goods are handled less often: good for quality.
Even in the first three months after commissioning, the error rates fell significantly compared to the previous operation. Expansion to include the option of weighing containers on receipt and photographically recording the Stock can halve the error rates again in the next one to two years.
