"ZUGgate" - where aesthetics and functionality meet
The new energy efficient logistics centre in Zug, Switzerland, stands out for striking architecture and technical top performance.
The Swiss-based appliances producer V-Zug invested more than 10 million Euros in the intralogistics of the new logistics centre “ZUGgate“. Through the realization of this high-performance plant with 20,800 pallet locations the trouble-free supply of the various costumer is centrally controlled and logistically handled. Stöcklin as the general contractor was in charge of the logistics of the new ZUGgate centre.

Now automated processes manage the logistics of V-Zug, which previously was done in decentralized warehouses. The strategic reorientation was imperative for the successful manufacturer of household appliances to optimize costs and at the same time, a challenge to integrate the warehouse into the existing location. V-Zug took up this challenge together with Stöcklin. The central requirements of the reorganisation of the logistics and the integrated systems were a notable rise in productivity and picking quality as well as transparency of inventory record keeping.
Due to the increasine time, personnel and cost of the decentralized solution, and detailed analysis on future development opportunities the environmently conscious developer decided to optimize the goods and information flows. The result is a state-of-the-art logistics centre with a special visual appearance. Next to the existing warehouse with its 9.400 pallet positions a new building was erected on a relatively small space, which accommodates not only the new high-bay warehouse with the incoming and outgoing goods area, but also the forwarding and logistics offices.
The stable and highly available logistics platform, which is working in one-shift operation at 5 days a week for 10 hours each, offers space for the intermediate storing of semi-finished and finished products as well as spare parts, and is connected to production by means of a high-performance shuttle car in an underground tunnel. Thus, the central criteria of efficient material supply has been fulfilled; absolutely essential for a trouble-free process of production and despatch.
